Post 9: Opposing View Point Annotation

Why is the NRA heavily criticized through the media?

De Groat talks about how the NRA attracts more negative feedbacks from the media than any special group. Because of negative news and regularly appears on media, NRA receives more attention and gradually increases in its memberships.

"National Rifle Association of America." Special Interest Group Profiles for Students, edited by Kelle S. Sisung, Gale, 2001. Gale In Context: Opposing Viewpoints, https://link.gale.com/apps/doc/EJ2119000114/OVIC?u=ggcl&sid=OVIC&xid=c9e32c18. Accessed 10 Mar. 2020.
The goal of the NRA is to provide firearms training and lesson and embrace the shooting sport. Its ultimate goal is to protect the 2nd amendment, which is the right to bear arms. Most of the organization’s income is from the member. In 1996, its revenue reported being $140 million. NRA is also involved in politics and lobbying the congress members. Because of that, the NRA gets a lot of political issues around it.

Don Kates discussed how the correlation between the number of sales of gun and gun violence cases doesn’t mean that gun is the reason the number of murders increases lately. But it’s the opposite in fact. The number of murders increases that leads to an increase in gun sales for self-defense. However, it doesn’t mean that guns could be the cause of death. But it doesn’t influence the gun’s sale.
