Fact 3: The Idea Behind George Edwin Taylor's Presidential Campaign
In American history, there have been 45 presidents since the American Revolution. Every naturally born citizen in America has a right to run for the presidential office and openly express their political views. In order to do so, they need to persuade the nation with their vision of the nation for the next four years. They need to establish goals and attract resources. Many candidates can run but only one gets elected. However. some lost candidates did not run without sending a crucial message for future consideration. They are the voices that help to change the world in the years to come. George Edwin Taylor was the first black male to run for the President of the United States of America. He ran for president election as a message to American citizens that other ethnicities can also run for president with the possibility of getting elected, and openly express their political opinion.
After the Civil War was over, Congress rationalized the 15th amendment to give black men the right to vote. However, this does not include women. With newly acquired political rights, many blacks grew interest in American politics and start a political discussion among their community. As a result, many planned to run for the presidential campaign. George was amongst one of them. He started to work as a journalist before he was involved in politics. He joined the Republican because of their sympathy over colored people. But soon, he discovered that it wasn't their interested agenda in the future years. He left a join the Democrats and discovered the same matter. Later on, he joined The National Liberty Party, which organized by blacks, and was nominated to run for president. His goal was to guarantee and protect rights for black citizens.
The Presidential run was soon to be ridiculed and viewed as a joke. Many did not consider him a serious candidate. However, his campaign was merely about getting elected. It was focus on being an example of bravery and fight for freedom. He sent a message to the future generation that regardless of who you are, everyone has a right to fight for their rights. As a result, many ran for president. In 2008, the first black American Barrack Obama was elected and it showed that George did have an impact on future generations.
