Fact 4: Thomas Edison - A brilliant marketing mastermind disguised as Inventor

Thomas Edison's light bulb
Throughout the history of mankind, many brilliant minds had created many great ideas and inventions that impacted life until today. However, the idea itself is not enough. The idea or invention needs to be optimized to reach its potential. At its best, the concept can improve lives and the productivity of the community. For example, the creation of the light bulb that allows the business to work endlessly from day til night. The father of the light bulb was widely known as Thomas Edison. However, that is proved to be false.  But, although Thomas Edison did not invent the lightbulb, he deserves credit because he perfected the idea with his massive resources and brilliant marketing skills. This made the light bulb desirable and soon be mass-produced due to high demand.

Warren de la Rue's light bulb
The fact that Edison did not invent the light bulb meaning that the light bulb had been developed before Edison's era of the light bulb. In 1800, Alessandro Volta was an Italian inventor who discovered the method of creating electricity and the illumination from the copper wire
using electricity. This is considered a base for the development of the light bulb. Using Volta's research, many scientists and inventors tried to create a source of light from electricity. In 1840, a British scientist successfully designed a first light bulb with the material of platinum. The scientist's name was Warren de la Rue. His light bulb invention was effective but the cost of platinum prevented the invention to become successful in the market. Despite being commercially successful, Warren de la Rue was the first scientist to create an effective and somewhat usable light bulb.

Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison did not invent the light bulb. However, he bought the concept legally from the Canadians inventors. Henry Woodward and Matthew created their concept of an electric lamp. The invention was executed well but lack of funds to support the lamp made the Canadians inventors sold it. Thomas Edison was the person who purchased the rights of owning the idea. This shows that although Thomas Edison already had an idea of improving the existing light bulb and electric lamp, he purchased it legally to own the concept. He installed a thin filament with durable material, high electrical resistance, to make the light bulb more practically and economically effective. However, it was the factor that made him an icon of light bulb creator. Before perfecting the light bulb, Edison made a bold claim that he had perfected the light bulb for daily use while it still under development and research. His goal was to attract the media and spread the news all over the market. As a result, after he released the light bulb into the market, it gained a massive attraction from buyers and made big dollars on his improved light bulb.

Thomas Edison was not the inventor of the light bulb. However, his bold marketing strategy and improvements in the light bulb made him became famous worldwide. In the recipe of success, it doesn't matter who came up with the idea but the only thing that matter is who executed to the perfection.
